Hey all, as some of you may know I've been having wireless problems. It was suggested to me to make sure my drivers are updated.
Well, I thought I had done that. I went to device manager and searched for driver updates. It came back with I had the most up to date.
Today, I decided to take it a step further and visited intel's site. There is an update for the intel pro wireless 2200bg. The thing is, if I'm reading it correctly, intel recommends going to my laptop's website.
When I go to hp, there doesn't seem to be any driver updates.
What do you all think? I can't down load the update directly from intel?
They recommend you go to your manufacturer's site because of other considerations that may apply to your particular laptop, e.g. OS, motherboard (remember Intel made the wireless onboard chip and not the board itself), etc.
Windows Vista has a habit of 'recommending solutions' that aren't really necessary.
You may not be harmed by downloading the Intel update, but then again it may void some support warranty you have. I'd wait till your manufacturer recommends it as an update.
As an FYI, network card updates aren't really necesary unless there are particular bug fixes that apply to you. Sounds to me like you probably have Windows Vista so you have new enough updates you'll be good to go with any router you're likely to run into in a wi fi hot spot like a coffee shop or an airport, or anything you can buy off the shelf for your house.
If you are using Vista, you can right-click the recommendation and say 'delete solution' which doesn't really so much delete anything as it keeps Windows from bugging you about this.
These warning typically come up when you're running as admin; I'd be more concerned that you weren't running as a regular user, with a separate admin account you preserve for logging into for installs and system maintenance.
HTH,

Thank you for the info. I'm running xp pro and I'm not too worried about any warranty. My laptop is 3 years old now. Getting up there in age in the computer world. *smile*
It was interesting reading on the intel site how they are discontinuing my network card. They have a timeline on how support will fizzle out.
I trust driver geneous pro for this purpose. that'd search for the perfect driver as it's own.
Raaj.
Wow, that driver geneous looks pretty cool.
By this time I have updated my drivers via intel's website. The wireless utility seems to respond better and quicker than the hp wireless assistant that came with my laptop.
Never listen to a company like intel when they tell you not to use there drivers - they can be much better than the ones that have come with your computer.
For future reference, if in the unlightly event that something goes wrong, you can just remove the driver and reinstalle the manifactures one.
Out of interest, has this solved your router issue?
Ya know I don't know what has solved it, but things seem better. We bought a lynksy router, I found a tweak on the web for comcast modems, and now this driver on my laptop. The intel driver sures connects right away, unlike the hp wireless, alwyas took some time.
Lol, I wish I knew what solved the issues, but I'm too chicken to unhook the lynksy to see.
I haven't deleted the hp wireless yet, only disabled it from starting.
